SCHWARZMAN COLLEGE, TSINGHUA UNIVERSITY
Schwarzman College is a residential college of Tsinghua University, the most famous university in China. Opened in 2016, the college was donated by and named after philanthropist Stephen Schwarzman, CEO of Blackstone Group. It was established to to educate future leaders about China through a scholarship program.
Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the college houses one of the most advanced higher-education facilities in the world and is one of the first LEED Gold–certified academic buildings in China.
The building is clad in the gray brick characteristic of Beijing and is accented with stone and wood details. A cavity masonry wall system is designed for this project.
The air cavity, water barrier and thermal insulation behind the brick veneer gives the brick wall system an excellent performance and contributes to the buildings remarkable appearance.
