Queenscliff Ferry Terminal

Opened in April 2023 and designed by F2 Architecture, the new A$16.5 million terminal significantly increases the passenger capacity of the ferry operation. Ferries ply a route that links the east and west sides of Port Phillip Bay at the two popular holiday towns of Queenscliff and Sorrento in Victoria, Australia. More than 250,000 vehicles and 960,000 people use the ferry service every year.

A key feature of the terminal is the curved roof that provides cover for passengers embarking and disembarking. Inhabit provided façade consultancy scope for the stainless steel cladding, glazed windows and stainless steel fascia plates from early design phase through to construction. Engineering certification scope was also provided for the window walls and the stainless steel fascia plates during the construction phase.

The development was shortlisted for three categories in the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) Victorian awards including Urban Architecture, Public Architecture and Regional Prize. The Victorian Jury Citation states: “Its heroic scale, finesse, and robust sense of shelter around the high-quality facilities within provide a heightened destination and amenity for the community and tourists alike, with sensitive landscape integration and a revegetated coastal dune.”
