JIAHUI INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL

Jiahui International Hospital is a privately owned, international-standard, 500-bed tertiary hospital located in downtown Shanghai’s Xuhui District, People’s Republic of  China. The first phase of the hospital was completed in 2017 and delivered 246 beds.

In cooperation with Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences the hospital provides training and internships for medical students.

According to architects NBBJ, a major design goal for the project was to bring to life a “hospital in a garden,” with natural light and greenery in the space. A large, park-like central courtyard with trees, shrubbery, grasses and pathways is a key design element of the hospital. Sustainable design is central to the project with the gardens helping to manage stormwater on the site, terracotta cladding reducing solar heat gain and a highly efficient central energy plant installed. As a result the project is the first ever LEED HC Gold certified hospital in China.

Inhabit provided façade consulting for the terracotta cladding and window wall system.
