HUNTINGTOWER PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE (PAC)
The 700-seat Performing Arts Centre for Huntingtower School in Melbourne, Australia, is acoustically of a very high standard and its technical fitout is superb. As well as the main auditorium and stage, the centre also includes a small performance space and links to a drama studio. Inhabit’s Acoustics team assessed the ideal facilities for the college which involved client and user group studies that influenced the building form.
Theatre planning was then undertaken to develop the concept and functional operational parameters of the audience bowl and stage areas and the complete package of theatrical/acoustic/audio visual elements were designed in conjunction with each other.
Complex scenery systems were not a high priority, but the highest quality acoustics and audio visual systems were essential. Inhabit’s services provided the client and end users with an optimal theatre at a reasonable cost, that can also adapt to the future needs of the school through careful infrastructure allocation.
Final testing has shown that the design outcome is well within the initial design tolerances. The space compares favourably to other international concert halls in its designed and measurable technical specifications.
