GRAND BAY VIEW HOTEL

Five years in the making, the five-star Grand Bay View Hotel in Zhuhai, People’s Republic of China, is now open.

Inhabit was engaged by hospitality Interior Designers L’Avventura & Associates to provide specialist lighting design services for the façade, landscape and interior of the project.

The façade lighting has been created to augment WATG’s slick, contemporary architecture by accentuating the curvature and sweeping lines of the prominent building which sits in prime position on Zhuhai Bay.

The porte cochère and landscaped areas are illuminated to welcome guests to a resort experience.

Working in close collaboration with the interior design team, Inhabit created a carefully detailed lighting design for the hotel that is both sophisticated and welcoming.

Drawing on the interior design theme of Euro Asia, the lighting features elements of detailing and integration that would be expected in any high-end hotel, with a dramatic Asian ambience countered by calmness.

The lobby features a striking double-height space made to feel memorable and intimate through a series of articulated timber frame-like structures which create quazi rooms and spaces within the lobby.

Powerful, miniaturised indirect lighting elements have been integrated into the frames to accentuate the rhythm of the framework and the warmth of the timber.

The visual experience of the lobby is further amplified through the bar and a series of luminaires which are concealed and integrated into the textured stone walls that embrace the lobby space.

The All Day Dining Space, designed by Exclusive Interiors by T&T, of Paris, France, offers guests an atmosphere of European chic. The lighting has been specifically located to provide function and highlight key features, such as artwork, interior detailing and the buffet.

Similarly, the Chinese Restaurant comprises a balanced combination of light which accentuates the interior finishes with the warm, inviting glow from bespoke chandeliers.

A calmly illuminated corridor leads hotel guests to their rooms where user-friendly lighting controls provide a quite ambience.

The Grand View Hotel is an excellent example of design through collaboration, using quality luminaires and the integration of light and architecture.
