GALAXY INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER + ARENA + Andaz Hotel
Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC) is the latest addition to Galaxy Entertainment Group’s integrated resort precinct on Macau’s Cotai Strip. Asia’s most iconic and advanced MICE destination, GICC is a world-class event venue with 40,000 sq m of total flexible MICE space. The ground-floor 10,000-sq m pillar-less exhibition hall can accommodate up to 7,000 delegates.
Located within GICC is the 16,000-seat Galaxy Arena, the largest indoor arena in Macau and Andaz Macau, a lifestyle hotel with more than 700 room and suites set to open in fourth quarter 2023. The development has been designed by 10 Design and the Project Architect is Wong & Ouyang. This phase of the Galaxy development has a different design approach to other earlier phases of Galaxy Entertainment Group development, but uses the signature gold of the Galaxy projects.
Inhabit has provided Façade Consulting, Access and Maintenance Consulting and BIM computation for the project. Twisted architectural fins in gold and white wrap around the façade geometry creating a unique visual appearance when approaching the famous Cotai Strip. The undulating features on the façade with the special shaped canopies brace the key entrances of the development.
The undulating features wrap around the building with the 50m wide entrance canopy setting the building boundary. The complex geometry posed a challenge to the project. With the aid of Inhabit’s BIM computation the team was able to solve many problems of interface between consultants and drawing production.
The Convention facility will also support the adjacent Phase 4 development, the link bridge connections between two phases will link all venues to future retails, hotel, food and beverage outlets and family entertainment destinations planned on adjacent lots.
