Advanced Manufacturing Centre Project C

Located in Tsung Kwan O’s Industrial Area, the Advanced Manufaturing Centre (AMC) is a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Co., Ltd. Architects Nikken Sekkei, who designed the centre in collaboration with Wong Tung & Partners, state the centre is “a prime example in promoting re-industrialisation and migrating to smart production. AMC is the first pilot project in Hong Kong showcasing how we respond to the emerging trend of smart factories in a multi-story building for multiple tenants’ operational requirements, adopting high standard of specifications and cutting-edge logistics systems.”

This project includes the construction of a nine-storey building with two basements, providing 108,000 sq m of floor area. Inhabit provided full façade consultancy from Schematic Design to Completion.

The main elevations comprise of 8.1m-high unitised façade panels to suit the unconventional high floor-to-floor slab levels. The unitised façade incorporates automated windows linked to the Building Management System (BMS). Bespoke perforated aluminium sheet panels are installed to create passive shading, reducing cooling loads and facilitating ventilation to BOH and MEP facilities. The panels have incremental percentage openings over the building height and are denser at the floors without MEP equipment.

The works also include the construction of a footbridge to AMC Project A – a data centre for which Inhabit also provided consulting services. A range of construction methods were implemented to support the government’s “Construction Industry 2.0. to promote innovation, specialisation and youth in the construction industry.”

The focus was to prefabricate 75% of the steel structure components and modularise 70% of the electrical and mechanical components in the factory, so that the construction safety, quality and efficiency reached the highest standards. Construction began in August 2019 and was completed Q1 2022.
