David West Technical Director | Melbourne

David is a Technical Director in the Melbourne office, where he has technical overview of the remedial façade consulting discipline bringing a lateral-thinking approach to develop evidence-based outcomes.

With more than 30 years of experience in the façade industry he is recognized for his expert knowledge of the use and performance of stone in buildings and his skills in forensic investigation. David has contributed to the expansion of technical knowledge in the fields of façade engineering, stone cladding and materials conservation. He has a specialist interest in stone cladding anchor performance, bowing of marble cladding and salt crystallisation testing of porous stone.

David’s technical expertise is reflected in his commitment to the development and promulgation of improved technical standards and contributions on standards-writing committees. David initiated the development of ASTM C1528 Standard Guide for Selection of Dimension Stone and drove the adoption of consistent and meaningful metric units in all ASTM standards for dimension stone.

In recent months, David has had a core role on the Steering Committee for a proposed Australian Façade Industry Association. This organisation will provide a central framework for all participants in the façade sector, from consultants and specialist contractors to manufacturers and product suppliers. It will focus on three key strands of training and education, technical codes and standards, and industry representation and lobbying.
