EAST VILLAGE, LONDON E20

Home to 17,000 athletes during the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, United Kingdom, East Village has been transformed into a vibrant residential precinct. The village stands in a district of east London that was once a brownfield industrial area ripe for regeneration.

Designed and constructed as the Athletes Olympic Village, the intent was to repurpose the project as a sustainable development with a mix of  low cost, social accommodation and private residential housing,  offices, shops, schools and a health facility. The village has now been transformed into East Village, London E20, a vibrant residential neighbourhood situated on the doorstep of The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The aim is to have 24,000 new homes in and around the park by 2031. Nearly 6,000 people now call the development home and East Village residents have access to 10 hectares of public space, over 30 small local shops, cafés and restaurants, and a well-equipped gym.

Inhabit was engaged to carry out compliance monitoring for the buildings so that the project could be granted practical completion. Inhabit’s London team monitored the façade materials, installation and finishes with full records issued to client teams and supporting sub-contractors as QA/QC coordination. Inhabit was also the façade consultant on No 8, East Village.
